All the things you've described though bear no relation to 'christmas' at all really.....

.... the Christian meaning around the date is so irrelevant to most people.

Plus there's the whole commercial argument... The fact that if there was no Xmas there's be no January sales... I'll never accept that some retailers aren't utterly cynical when it comes to stocks & pricing in the run up to Xmas... Of course they are... I'm not saying it's all a big scam, but these organisations know exactly what they're doing, it's all premeditated & calculated to generate maximum revenue.

indeed.

Sirius.

I can't wait for Christmas, i even have a whole stack of Christmas records- Phil Spectors Wall of Sound being my Fave.

Ho ho ho- Merry Christmas:)

Edited to add: I hope it snows as well.

Butty likes it too. I used to like it but it aint really special for me any more.

My uncle died and he was like the last close relative on my mums side really. It's just not the same without him and the rest of that side of my family.

I don't really speak to my dads side, including his mum-shit i know but she's a bitch-and I'd kill him if we had to go round there and spend the day, I went round 2 years ago and it was the shittest xmas day EVER. Plus that was the year I had nowhere to live lol (so that may have had somet to do with it) The christmas dinner just wasnt my mums :(

I wana spend this year kinda similar to last year, eating and sleepin for most! :)

Make it something great again then. Thats what we do in our house, just have the best possible time ever for a few weeks whilst off work. I too don't have much family, but you know- i love the atmosphere we get in our house around Christmas- it just feels warm and welcoming and smells of being a kid somehow again. I absolutly love watching Jonno's face when he opens his presants, and i love decorating the tree and shit. I just love it all, its just the best time of year.

I hate it as well, it's pants lol

The worst bit is the bit after Xmas and before New Year, that is a proper shit time of 'being in limbo'.

Still, looking forward to being off work and getting pissed and twatted off my box, eating loads of top food and chilling out - that's the best bit imo.

Well im with you amelie, i too love xmas. :)

I love shopping for peoples pressies but sometimes get abit down if my cash flow isnt as good as i hoped and cant get them more. :(

I love the fact of being around all our mates having house partys and going to clubs, pubs just everyone in a top mood. Theres always something going on. :)

I love wrapping pressies and seeing them all stacked under the tree ready to be opened. :D Im the first one to get up in the morning. :$

The xmas decorations just make the house look so cosy and when you take them down it looks so bare. :(

And the yummy xmas dinner now that just tops the whole of xmas up. Mmmmm!! :king:

Woo-hoo, the supermarkets are getting all their festive shit out. Maaaaan do we love Chrismas in our house. Jonno is making us some homemade bacon with a pig hanging for ages outside (or summat), and i am going to do a great big fuck off ham thing with cloves stuck all over it. Mulled wine an obv addition.

Mince pies, nuts in shells, Quality Sreet, them savory nibble things, too many posh cheeses, loadsa family rows. Christmas rocks with a capital 'R'.

Have i left it too late to make a cake? If not anyone know any recipies?

I luuurve Christmas.

Well I'm of the 'bah humbug' camp, but sod it,im coming to yours this year, sounds magical :D
Imagine next year when you've got a little bambino to spoil too for their 1st Xmas, aww

and homemade bacon... Im sorry but thats conjured up an image of Jonno chasing a poor squealer round with a machete  lol

It's not a whole pig I'm hanging or anything. I'm going to be curing a belly of pork by the application of brine rather than dry salt over a period of a couple of weeks or so, and as that Frosties advert kid (who's hung himself) says "it's gonna taste great"!

You're absolutely right Easty I never forget the sweet baby jesus over the chrimbo period :)

everything except the dinner & the telly...

having said that, the telly's been bare shite the last few Xmaseses, and you can have turkey dinner any time of year, so what's the point?

it's all the falseness n'all...
having to send cards to folks you can't fucking stand...
having to buy presents you know people don't want...
all the "because it's Xmas" forced-bonhomie & conviviality.

It's all just such bollocks... I mean there's no reason all these things can't be done right through the year, and because you want to do them. This whole en-masse forced-celebration just because of a date on the calendar just seems ridiculous to me.

But i'm a right miserable old barst, as everyone knows

Well, we can be miserable bastards together...because I completely agree with EVERYTHING you have just said squire!!! The food is one thing I like...even with the family you never see. There is always such an air of anti-climax about the whole thing. :(

Ba Humbug!!!!!:ba:

erm you all seem to be forgetting that christmas is suppose to be a religious celebration and none of the other stuff matters, .

Well I'm Jewish...also almost everyone who celebrates xmas...is not religious in the slightest! I see it as a western holiday as aposed to a religious one. I do agree that people miss the original point of xmas (ie Jesus was born)...but actually...people have proved he was born in October...not December...so what the hell does that mean????

Xmas...spend time with the family...get pissed...somthing to brighten up the dreary winter...a time to stress out (it's one of the most stressfull times for alot of people)...a time many people buy into capitalist shite...oh BUT I DO LOVE A GOOD CHRISTMAS TREE!!!!!! That is the most single best thing about the whole scenario of xmas!!!!
