Totally. The way the media is carrying on, anyone would think it was the second coming or something.

He's black. So what? If we're all equal, then I don't get why it's such a big fucking deal!!!

It's such a big deal because a few years ago if you'd have said there was going to be a black president then a lot of people would have thought you were taking the piss. It wasn't that long ago that black people weren't considered to be equals and it's a massive deal really. :) He seems loads more switched on than George dub-ya! :king:

i understand what your saying but weather hes black or white shouldnt be the issue surely its what he can do and all hes done at the minute is talk a good game that doesnt justify him being shuved in everyones faces all day long and 2 million people camping out in washington just to see him make some speech about change. I cant wait to see how long this change will take the public are saying they will give him 2 years.

Yeah sure, in the days of Martin Luther King, it would of been a massive big deal to elect a black president. But that was then, and this is now, where everybody is supposed to be equal. So he shouldn't be looked at as a "black president". He should just be a "president"

He's not even black anyway, he's half n half. So it would be just as accurate to call him white, lol :D :p

This is just proving that everybody is equal, don't you see. He is the first coloured (ok, so he's mixed race not black ilp :p) president and it's only like 40 odd years ago when that would have never happened. It's just proving how far people have come in terms of not being so bloody ignorant.... Yes, he is a president, but he is making history and it's definately proving that everyone is equal. I suppose not having had a black president before wasn't really a good message for equality was it? :)

Anyhoo, it is shit that he's plastered all over the press etc but the underlying message is a good one! :) :king:

Movin' on up.
It is a big deal for the following reason.

While we are all supposed to be "equal" the reality is that we are not.

For a man of mixed racial origins to become the most powerful man in America, which has a very strong and recent history of racism is a big deal.

I agree with all those who say it should not be an issue as I am already aware of equality. However, there are millions of dumb people who are not and for them seeing a man of mixed race and his family daily on TV and running the shop will have an impact on latent racist attitudes.

No doubt it will only increase the racism of the hardcore cavemen minority, but they all deserve a bullet. Ironically one of them may aim one at Obama.

It may also serve as a moment that changes how young black people see themselves and what they can achieve.. . .I hope so.

I agree the media, have gone nuts on the subject, but it will tone down now.

Personally, I find his rapid rise to President is an interesting story.

I hope he does well as the world needs a real leader right now.

Anyone is better than old Dubya!
