i can get to the control panel ok but no network connetions in there either.... nothing showing when i type in cmd either???

You get a dos prompt 9command propmt) when you type cmd?

Type ipconfig/all then press enter - if your Ip and dns isn't showing any, you probably arent set to auto

to show any active connections - start -> run 'netstat' OK

Just so I can picture. The cable router is connected to the buffalo router (wired) that is then connected to the pc (wired) and you swish to add the laptop (wireless). And you are connecting to the router from the wired connection to set it up

seem ok from what you have put. Had you tried resetting the router put back to default settings? Also you could take the connection from the modem to router and put str from modem to pc to prove the modem/cable connection working ok first.

Sorry if saying thing u have already done - just thinkin aloud

To reset it:

Press and hold the recessed reset button for a few seconds until the DIAG LED illuminates. This implies that the unit must be turned on first, press and hold, and wait for the LED.

This should then set its IP back to default - then you should be able to browse to it (192.168.11.1) through i.e etc from the PC that is wired to it.

If you cant browse to it - try ping it

Start -> run -> Cmd -> ping 192.168.11.1

Debs will virgin not send you a free wireless modem if your connected up to them anyway , the least they should do if they cant help you over the phone is send you an engineer round, they have been out to mine before and im sure its free of charge , i had a problem with mine that it could see the router but couldnt connect and i phoned them and they got me to use a different computer to adjust the settings online which then miracoulously helped my laptop make friends with the router, i think you need to get someone round tbh as you may do more harm than good if ya mess with all your settings , sorry i cant be much help but i speak as someone who knows how wrong ya can get it if ya start tinkering, try virgin again honest and just blag them, at the end of the day your paying for one of there services and not recieving it ,they will help , its just annoying being kept waiting on the phone for 20 mins before they do , im useless with modems and technology so cant offer anymore advice im afraid :$ :confused:
