Mate, i sympathise but dont be lulled into the 'mindless looting, copycat, opportunistic' BS the news present you with. There are deeper issues here concerning generations of frustration and inequality which are coming to the fore since the shooting last week. Sadly i think this is just the start of it, not only in the UK but Europe wide as we have seen. :S

Dont talk out of your arse, this is nothing but bored kids stealing, robbing and burning peoples properties down. Very few would even know what happened on Thursday evening which is an incident which is being investigated and you know may have been an accident or genuine over reaction?

The Police are too left wing, they need to toughen up and strike back for hard working and honest people like me

Agreed.

You have a point Siman and to an extent i agree. However, in my opinion content and happy people dont randomly burn and loot, kids or no. There are deeper social issues at play here. Its more than just summer holiday hi-jinks that the news insinuate. Of course the media/news wouldnt report on 'social inequality and oppression brings hundreds of looters and burners onto the streets'. Although the British media had no time concluding that was the case with the Rodney King/L.A riots in the early 90's.

Movin' on up.
There are serious issues of inequality, but let's get real. Most people are simply using the first riot as an excuse to steal and damage property.

Loads of dickheads tearing up their own communities for a laugh.

They don't know they are born compared to previous generations.

Just looking in this room of the forum, it seems it's cool to steal, it's cool to ring in sick when you aren't. It's not evolution, it's devolution, it's society breaking down because people don't have respect for their companies, for other peoples property, maybe they haven't been brought up properly and that will no doubt get passed down to their kids who will see this as the normal way to be.

You take a softly softly approach with discipline and people will walk all over you and the police feel like they're treading on eggshells because they're damned if they do and damned if they don't.

There's always victims to every crime and for many of these looters it'll even include them, when they suddenly discover the insurance for their cars or homes has increased in cost, or there's less available housing in their areas so that have to move elsewhere and many other buildings are boarded up and look an eyesore.

I thought this sums up where i was coming from pretty well:

Balearic Mike quoting Lord Macc
"the police, the government, fleet street and the bankers have all shown they have no respect for the law and in fact believe themselves to be way beyond it's jurisdiction. how can you expect some unemployed tear-arse mocked by a society advertising a life he will never be able to afford to see this and behave himself? on sky news it's about criminals looting shops. this is more, much more. there's a context that, in the long term, will continue to be ignored."

I realy do not care about the 'POOR YOUTH OF TODAY'......guess what I think most of us had a hard start to our adult life, the late 80's was a deeper resession and harder employment environment than now and I did not go theiving or rioting!!

Like most of us, I got an education, worked hard and some how went through university (whilst working mornings and weekends at a bakery to earn some money), got qualifications and made something of myself now earning well and hapily married etc. Even friends who did live on the streets etc, they were not violent, ok devious and crafty in order to survive but never violent!!

Just seeing some pictures of Croydon, £1,000,000's of damage.....i deal with building fires and overseeing the repairs, each of the buildings are total losses.....that will be all of paying for this through increased insurance!!

I heard an interview yesterday which hit it on the head for me.......

'These kids expect everything for free and to be done for them, they get free education, paid to stay at school, get grants and put through college when they are not interested and then fall out of education expecting a job to be found for them as they have had everything done for them all their lives thus far'

Im saving to go to Oz in March, maybe I wont buy a return ticket!!

Been watching it past 3 days on Sky News,I think its time for the rubber bullets and water cannons too be deployed, dont really think the met is handling the whole affair very good,I mean who sends horses into riot situations, over here we send in amoured land rovers, met could learn alot from the PSNI on how to handle riot situations, just my 2 cents worth!!!

Bunch of scrotes if you ask me! I don't know any normal working class person that would participate in rioting or looting. I don't think the police have handled it very well either, obviously people think it's acceptable behaviour because it's continued to spread around the country, should have been knocked on the head from day one!

I think we have our new summer of love that we've been waiting for happening right now. Instead of raves we'll have a riot :(
Dissafected and disengaged youths, with probable organised crime elements hiding in their wings; seizing the opportunity to use mass riots (potentially using social media to disseminate an idea of a riot) to do masses of damage; seemingly without instant reproach from the law. Expect some new draconian law which will affect all of us sometime soon.

I like Joey Bartons (footballing scum) solution on twitter. Lets set a curfew and anyone found outside after that is fair game for a beating!
