I just wanted to spark some convo about charging silly money for tunes. (I've seen some talk about it in the Want section.

What does everyone think of this?

I hear that people like Melody House are charing summat stoopid like £400 quid for a tune, no really, (think it was Ben Fisher who told me that)

Now, to me over 20 quid is silly money, and 50 quid well is even siller but £400!!!!

If I give Melody House as an example, is it the Stigma of 'Zone' tunes that inflate the price?????

I'd like to know how sellers get away with these prices. I mean if I was a seller and I could do it then I would lol, but who the feck buys tunes for £400 quid????

Quite good earning DJ's?????

Judith Kepplewait (or whatever her name is lol) the winner of Millionaire a while ago

The Queen lol

Comments please:rolleyes:

Funny I was thinking the same thing myself when I went to Melody House. The prices they were charging were nothing short of ridiculous e.g. £30 for Anita Adams - Moving Up And Down - that record ain't fucking rare. That was one of the cheap one's.

The funny thing was I didn't know 95% of the tunes with these crazy prices. They all had stickers on saying stuff like “as featured on Zone – back to the cheese board vol 3”. Like this justifies a £300 price tag or something!

The conclusion I came to was it must be for the tourists (foreign one’s perhaps). It’s a Blackpool thing. Blackpool people are rip off merchants. Their whole economy is based on having your cash off – whether it be dodgy burgers, the arcades or the blokes on the front selling whatever happens to be the latest novelty (Elvis wigs, invisible dog leads, crack cocaine, whatever). Melody House are merely extending this tradition to the tune market.

Incidentally, and this question is for the Queen – I believe that on average you receive 2 human turds a week through the post. What I wanna know is - who’s sending you the other one?

Thanks 'HRH and Jonno good comments indeedy

I was thinking it was a Blackpool thing myself actually nice one.

I mean we all know that some Northern Soul records go for silly money but to my knowledge only these 'Zone' records (in general) go for for crazzzeeeee wonga.

I dont want this thread to be a slate Zone and Melody House thread but its a good e.g. of what I'm on about.

I do hear occasionally that some new promo changes hands or gets offerered for like a couple of hundred quid. I suppose its all about 'the buzz' surrounding the track. Whether it be blowin up da clubs or its a certain artist (KLF springs to mind)

Theres a stigma attached to 'Sasha' stuff as well. You know cos Sasha played this certain record in 91, then sellers put the price up a tenner lol

I agree with Jonno tho, some peeps just take the piss

Melody house

Melody house are complete buisness men come to think about it they buy ur record from you for a 10er and tell u it isnt rare of fuck all but you see the same copy the week b4 goin for 100 quid they say no we got a batch ot promos in from italy and offer u a 10er and then a week later the TUNE is in the window for a 1er i wouldnt even mind who wants pay 150 brick for a tune thats not rare and the fact that they try and make out that there the only ones that get the zone tunes in the country is complete ++++ cos they get there tunes from midi uk distributions in bolton (JUST A COMPLETE RUMOUR BUT KEITH HIMSELF THE MAN WHO OWNS IT RECKONS THEY GET OR GOT ALOT FROM HIM 2)... a disco magic and italian house and italian style label guy ... and the fact that half the tunes that there sellin for 150 - 300 or 400 , i think its the fact that zone have gone above there self cos thats there own style of music that they play . . . . dont get me wrong i grew up on zone music always loved it but it pisses me right off that they sell tunes that are for prices that just take the pisss ..... tunes they bought from other guys and tellin them that the tune isnt rare they got shit load of copies in back and are full of it ,,,, what needs to be done is not buy for silly prices from them save face then if they bring down the prices go in and rape there whole collection`s

what i also heard is that the tunes in there are andy ds and debiie d`s own tunes that they dont want to sell originally so bang up for silly prices because if they dont go they dont care and if they do go well u just been laughed at at the tilll and they made 400 pound and will buy a new copy from the next guy who walks in shop sellin his tunes and make him there new bitch for the the time it takes for him to give in to there bollocks and sell them there tune s for a fiver a go

i was one of them Who was Blagged To Death but then i would pay again silly prices for a tune that they got but i dont know what it is the vocals go

it was friday night and i was a justt chilllin ..... like i always o 2 a friday .... thee next thing i new blah blah blah blah ....
then kicks in whooo yaaa here we go work that thing cos he we go

and have always wanted to know name arghhh

but respect to melody house though they got buisness heads and only do what we would do each and everyone of us ... its jus the fact that they have done it and can get away with it cos they know people will pay it .....

crazy poster

well if u didnt like the oldzone stuff from blackpool ie superstars like mattbell..... andy d ... stu davies ... chris baker .... and liked hacienda stuff like nipper from hacienda .. h did u used wear a tank top and have a handbag lol only jokin , hacienda was girly classics , yes but wicked at times ... granted sasha rocks ,,, granted NIPPER IS a God ,, but granted zone from 92 -94 kicked Big time ... with djs like mattbell , andy PENDLE andy d ... the zone now is bobins hardhouse but then again times change , i see the stuff as what i used to say to my parents when a kid .. god mum this is shit what u listened 2 and i reckon my kids will do same ... cos they`ll be into hardhouse or what ever ... just like my mum said to me .. yeah but if it wasnt for there music we wouldnt have ours now , which can be true but im just stuck in the days of mattbell andy d pleasure drome welly nipper bowlers maximes .. .the upliftin happy vibe NONE HANDBAG the stuff ,
sasha and nipper played all white labels soin a sense couldnt get a release and italian classics well where do i start tecnoage mobin now classic jt companys , lee marrows malcolm mcclaren and that tecnos back ....
the stuff zone well zone maximes bowlers played where italian e where good enough to get a label to be produced apart from various tecnoage whites and not be on a whitelabel .... so somewhere along lines italian house to me is ultimate from 90 - 92 rocked from 92 - 94 u got the 60 percent classic tunes and the 40 percent goin cheese .....
90 percent of northerners love the italian house ,
ive heard sasha sets that rock the house
then ive heard sasha sets that u just want to take yer mrs to bed cos hes playin some girly handbag love tunes over

get a mattbell andy d ... a dj nippper .... from 92 above or a nipper maximes bowler ... or a mattbell zone 92 plus and ulll see TUNES to the max ... no offence to you or ought but thats where we differ in it ... probs put to test wed both like same tunes ...

heres my 10 p worth

Aye i like the zone days of 91 92 the shaboo days n hacketts
early matt bell, dave charnley, ant white but its all to do with ages like ya say ste - the matt bell i know was liuke daz willot nipper, sasha - they played variety of styles threw anythin in the mix - just look at daz willotfor example throwin ben e king stand by me over frank de wulf b sides, yeah sasha did this yrs ago - it was mashups in the early 90s wasnt all about mixing like today just throw tune after tune - the dj had to ave bollox wither thats gonna go down like a lead balloon or its gonna take roof off and daz done that almost every time - matt bell the same they similar djs all plyed similar there was no genres of music then not like today. 92 changed that

Matt bell i gotta respect kept it italian even though l8r on playin the cheeser stuff but as publisiced greatly went off scene now hes playin his US stuff, and as kaz said once ste, matts prefernece at home was us hosue todd terry n the like loved strictly rhythm - matt played to the crowd - a lot of djs at this time didnt. sasha discovered and liked the trancier more progressive sound and ya got a respect he discovered a genre all of his own and he kept with it, now to be one of worlds best djs yr after yr

its all to do with the ages of people - like yeah i take piss out of this zone stuff nowadays but its for teenagers innit. mainly the northern scene, its like garage in london - i laugh at it, but i guess if i was livin noth id have followed the crowd aswell

alan

Yeah good points all

You will find that Sasha/Nipper and early Zone DJ's had 1 thing in common 'Italian House'

So its all good init

Its such a shame in a way that there were spawns of genres of genres of spawns of frog spawns of sub genres and all that bollocks but at the end of the day music had to evolve, peeps like a certain sound and jump on it, hey presto another frog spawn genre is born!!

:axe:

The most I have payed for a tune is 20 quid, Desired State - Dance the dream - White label on Romford recs

Whats yours?

i agree al for defo ....

i agree al for defoo but with mattbell i gues from 93 i really got big time in to italian house music and piano piano piano even more .... i used love nipper and then loved the willot style .... but then mattbell started just a style i coudnt get enough of scratching and piano full through .... its maybe cos it got 2 1993 and in 93 all the piano anthemz where out and djs like mattbell had more variety to play it wasnt just mettbell though , andy d 2 it was just zone in 93 where i liked where they cut out the tunes and style of others and went there seperate ways dont know it must of been fact that i was collectin for some reason the tunes he played the day i bought a tune a week later a m8 would pop up with a zone tune and id think wow fuck me is mattbell copyin me for buyin tunes or what ,,,, then i found out matt bell was goin beat street in bolton and mike stewart was givin everyone the sales pitch lol bangin on the same piano tunes and everyone bought em lol , come think about it 93 became a complete splitter for all 3 djs mentioned well all 4 sasha changed , willot and mattbell changed from there same styles of eachother and nipper stayed with like a bowlers vibe maximes vibe .... but still all of them are still what i call oldskool

lol fuck me whats this i have some bolton cider and i get deep

melody house

im gonna have to stick up for phil @ melody house here, he seems to be taking a slating for his prices. Iv been collecting the mid 90,s italian since they came out and have hundreds of them luckily most of them bought at normal prices from various shops around the uk, i dont mind these crazy prices coz iv got most the ones i want but its not just phil in blackpool, you go to the north east and the prices are even worse. Were talking up to £1000 for some of the italian classics up there!!!!! Mikey will know what im on about.

So when all you lot are slagging him off for charging high prices just remember its not just him, its the north of england in general especialy newcastle, gateshead, cleavland and southen scotland coz the italian was massive up there too. There still seems to be a demand for these italian tunes all around europe because no other dance music comes close to the quality sound of italian, its in a class of its own (im prepared to be slated for saying that!)

BTW, i was on an austrailian web site which was selling italian tunes for up to $100, so you cant blame phil for those prices!!!

Anyway i hope the demand still goes on coz if i ever need to sell up i'll make a shit load of money;)

Kev...........

Kev, I was in no way slating Phil himself for charging those crazy prices, its just that melody House is a good example and one of the most common. Thanks for letting us know that there are sellers who charge more, I thought as much!!

Forget specific sellers yeah, what do you think of this situation/Whats your view?
