Tunes
I feel you are all being a bit harsh about tunes that we have all loved growing up with over the years and that have shaped a generation.
Of course if you hear any track over and over you will tire of it but it doesnt necessarily mean its shite!
Most of the tracks you mention I actually still like and if listening to a radio station will make me turn up the volume and either sing or dance along to.
I dont know if all you guys are listening to too much oldskool and have oldskool fatigue but I try and vary my musical listening experience so not to bor emy brain by listenin to the same stuff all the time. I still get a buzz out of listening to Playing With Knives which is surely still one of the top ten oldskool tracks of all times?
A few tracks that I used to hate back then (but listening back to them now dont annoy me as much as ive aged and mellowed!):-
TC 1992 - Funky Guitar. This track just seemed to go on and on with nothing much really happening. One guitar sample and some bird wailing about no words to the song. I cannt believe the huge amount of mixes that this warranted and why everyone was playing it. I hate the guitar as an instrument as it makes me feel sick when I listen to it in a club and this track popping up in a mix in a club really turned me against the track and the whole sound.
S-Bam-Chica boom Another track with sounds that were quite harsh and not that pleasing to the ear. Just hasnt got any good memories in my head.
Seb-Sugar ShackIf you are all including Artemesia in this Im including Seb (same season) This track just insulted the listeners intelligence with sugary sweet melodies and annoying bleeps and repetition - how long did the 12" go on for before I had to leave the club. Also the key changes near the end would blow my head off. Totally awful.
Any Ratpack track! I couldnt get into any of the Ratpack tracks back then. They all sounds very (too) raw, under-produced, poor samples and some bloke randomly rapping with a strange accent. I can listen to Searchin for my rizla and Captain of the ship now but it doesnt bring any good memories flooding back. They were good live though - but never worth buying!
Right - thats a few tracks that spring to mind being particularlly awful. I actually liked(and still like) Patrik Prins Bits n Pieces and think it was a classic way above of its time - the whole Prins album was great! Try and get the album Movin Melodies by Patrick Prins - you will surprised at the amount of 'club hits' he had on that album. Not too sure about the ambient disc that came with it mind!
