I can't understand how anyone can slag him of. He might not be the best technically when it comes to mixing but so what? he probably put more kids onto old skool than anyone else over the years and for that he should be applauded

You hit the nail smack on the head there mate. Thats how i started on ere and invariably ended up collecting and dj'ing oldskool. IAn i am sure a few others can say the same.

Lets be honest here he has been around for a long time and has created the Retro name but he is moving away from wat he started and in some peoples opinions thats the wrong move and in others the right one.

Personally speaking i think he is a sound guy and have met him a few times but i have to admit his sets are getting repetitive and i suppose always will be.

I think he was a good DJ back in the day. He played what people wanted then. A proper "party DJ".

He is now very successful still playing what people today want (which is not what a lot of people on here want). However that doesn't make him shit. It does, however make some people jealous.

It's just "cool" not to like him:rolleyes:

He also know's more about dance music from the last 25 years then probably anyone else on this forum.

Peace:mexican:

well said ....

i stay well away from any event he's playing at nowadays, as you know what you're gonna get .....

that doesnt mean to say the guy's shit. there isn't a person who can mix consistently as well as this guy. fact. so theres no argument is there:D

BTW - i still have both of the very first 2 retro tapes he made, both of which are excellent. same old anthems, but brilliant mixing and ideas ..... perfect for someone who likes hearing the 'anthems'. which mix is this thread referring to?

Paul Taylor is one of the most inconsistent mixers there is FACT.

as for him knowin more about dance music than anyone else on this forum, NO WAY. FACT.

his sets are getting worse every year, still playin jonestown, soul providers etc when theres loads more better, obscure stuff around if he could be arsed searchin for it, tryin to keep it fresh instead of the same tired event its become now.FACT

this is just my opinion, not lookin for any arguments on it, if you think different, fine.

He used to be ok

i'm not slating him as such just saying over the years he seems to of got a bit lazy like doing the same mixes over and over again and always playing the same tunes

You just can't knock him.....I HATE THE MUSIC HE PLAYS but he's been successful for a quarter of a century.
Never had a PROPER job...bloody wadded...
The club in Yarm that he does Retro at is Huge.
It's all about personal opinion but he hasn't changed.
That is what you get with Mr Taylor......
But I have the upmost respect for him, he is a business man.
Always has been.

BUT his music is DOG SHITE.

aye just goin off what everyone else has said really - i think hes a sound bloke, but his sets can get quite boring and preddictive, last retro i went to i predicted his last 5 tunes, with his obvious young to asha mix to finish, but massive respect to the guy, hes made it to the top and stayed there for years!! hes massivley respected by the younger generation of clubbers who absolutley idolise the guy! But like RetroAndy has said hes taking the Retro night in a different direction, on retroevents.com - it used to be - Retro "a celebration of house music 88-2000" or somethink like, but now its just Retro "a celebration of house music" not so much retro anymore, but mainstream chart funky house music...

but u cant knock the guy - Retro is one of the biggest nyts in the North West and will be yet for a few more years i rekon, but i dont think it will have the same impact when PT decides to pack it all in.. hes a propa croud pleaser and gets everyone goin - dont think retro will be as big when he hangs his headphones up!

anyways! whats this mix like! there seams to be an error in track 3 when i unzip it! anyone help!?!?

zac.

Shame he no longer puts it to use then really.

Aye true. I reckon though he should be given a chance to play at Hazy (making sure he's read these posts). Give him cart blanche to play his tunes to a different crowd than what he's used to. Let him play his old Northern Soul, hip-hop, house etc. Who know's we might be pleasantly surprised:)

Listen mate, not being funny here but if people in leeds don't know who Mike Stewert is then there is no point having old skool nights in Leeds, and have you listened to the back in time tapes? regardless of whether anyone has heard of him you would have to agree that he would be worth paying the money for him to dj. IMO he is an absolute legend, not only for the tunes he produced but for his djing as well. Plus if you got him absolute loads of this website would come plus loads from Manchester. Imo it would be more of coup getting Mike Stewert than getting nipper:thumbsup:

agreed easty:thumbsup: the man is :king: lucky enough to get a couple of back in time mixes off Lee and tehy are fookin top:cool: As for Mr 'Retro' PT - yeah fair do's his sets are predictable, but at the end of the day he gives the people what they want - you just don't go toone of nights regular - and if like us old uns with family and kids who only get out once every blue moon - i tell you what i would rather be guaranteed a 'familiar' set that i was gonna buzz off especially if had paid £10-£15 or whatever - as much as i appreciate a great dj who varies what they play and tries to be different by pulling out some unheard gems - to be honest when i am out it aint about trainspotting a tune like it is for most of you guys - i just wanna go out dance on that dance floor for 4-5hrs non stop and have a fucking top night - and for the record i went to a house party nye cos we all have kids - there were about 20 of us adults and i took 4 oldskool cd's - of which 1 was this - guess which got most hammer..... anthems is what you want especially nye!!! :D

hes so boring with his " safe mixes " cos hes making easy money off this name thats all and all the young kids love him cos they have never seen him back then and its all new to them in it .hese only a headliner at yarm and wakey cos retro is copyrighted to him and he owns the name. ther are more better headliner than him like d j slipmatt .d j lomas .d j andy carrol .d j mike knowler top d j in the time true ponieers of the houescen .

The only pleasant suprise would be him saying yes to an invite to play there to be honest.

They couldnt afford him & he's highly unlikely to ditch one of his sat nights at tall trees, wakefield etc for it cos the places would be half full.
