Well seen as this is an oldskool site i really really reallllllly can't imagine mp3 being the winner but in the end digital music will be in one way or another.

Now if u were to ask the same question on many of the other site's out there that don't really do oldskool as much well the answer would be the other way round....

Fact is most of the people use serato scratch or traktor allready so in essence your allready digital just dont like to think of it that way ;)

Flac for me all the way.

I used to be a massive fan of vinyl & still am, but in practical storage terms & in terms of financial savings, digital wins all the way, especially when I play out. I don't mean by that, that I leech everything for free off the web, if I like a track/EP, I'll buy it online
I also think that digital offers all sorts of exciting potential in terms of audio manipulation, the whole idea of looping a section of a track. Something unavailable through vinyl, unless you are a turntablist or have some locked grooves etc. Or of course, you can just play tracks all the way through.
Every now and then, I have the laptop playing & will mix vinyl into it, just to scratch the old itch.
I suppose a good dj will shine through regardless of medium & I think it's very naive & prejudiced to dismiss a dj for sticking to one or the other. I still hear both great & really dull stuff via both media.
I can sort of see the logic in saying specific genres deserve vinyl only djs, (eg. Northern Soul ableton set just sounds daft), but given that house is based on loops, dunno if I would argue that old house stuff etc should be vinyl only.
I really can't make my mind up on that point.:)

I'd say it was more of an 'oldskool music' site. You don't have to be wearing dungaree's to log in like :p

As Im a purist vinyl, but times are changing and I can see the practicality etc in mp3/cd's.

Where vinyl is available I buy vinyl... where not the WAV / MP3 using timecoded vinyl on Trakky... so both.

You should do one for decks / CDJs / midi-controllers Ben ;)

Marcus I think you need to edit/update part of your profile on discogs fella

Which reads ......

''Oh yeah one final thing... any requests for MP3s will be treated with the utter contempt they deserve. Get yourself a pair of decks & spend 20 years digging in 2nd hand shops then come back to me.

The answer will still be no.''

;)

I use both Benny for various reasons ....

Music is music if you're enjoying what you hear is it important what format its in?? Just dance, smile & be happy :D

That was for those random that plagued my Ogs inbox with requests for MP3s for tunes widely available on vinyl.

As before, if it's on vinyl I buy vinyl. Some tunes are digi only which is why I've bit the bullet I got Scratch Pro.

My MP3 collection is more or less non existent (mainly sets rather than tunes).

My vinyl collection on the other hand is rather large.

I've voted for both. I sold my turntables and most of my vinyl 10 years ago after DJing for 10+ years. I don't have the room for decks where I am currently living, but intend to go back to it at some point. I still have a few hundred of my favourites in storage at my parents house 70 miles away.

I now have a midi controller and as I have a kick ass system to play through buy as much as I can in WAV/FLAC format for the best possible sound quality.

I still enjoy a good old dick about on the decks and I can't see that changing any time soon.

Imagine in ten or twenty years time, what are the (mass) debates gonna be about?

People arguing that old skool .wav is waaaay better than new skool amazing jizzbox format?

Or maybe that old skool mp3/wav/flac controllers are sooo cool and retro and new skool palm sized double see through touchscreens (minority report) and geeky and wank.

Crazy how fast things are changing. :gigolo:

Movin' on up.
I'm vinyl all the way as I only have Technics, however if I was playing new stuff would probably use mp3 and mix using traktor pro scratch and my Technics to keep that real live edge to the mixing.

Vinyl all the way for me,had a bash on some cdjs a few years ago but ended up selling them as i wasnt getting the buzz i get from records.I can understand people who have digital formats as the cost of vinyl is silly and soulseek has a good library of oldskool.Ive not bought vinyl for years now just use the stufff i got in the early 90s,have considered getting rid but always bottle out.Wouldnt mind getting a software were ya can use ya decks through comp using mp3s but the good stuff isnt cheap and if me comp went down id lose all me downloads which would be a bummer.:)
