My personal preference is not to have music on automatically. Sorry guys! I'd prefer an opt in rather than an opt out too, so you configure the settings so it plays automatically (if that's what you want) rather than have to switch it off if you aren't in the mood.

I just find that most sites piss me right off if music starts playing automatically when i'm listening to something else

I'll go along with what superdan wrote as the overwhelming majority seem to want a trial run, but I honestly don't see anything wrong with just clicking a single link which tunes you in. Maybe butty can move the radio to another area of the forum where the radio plays automatically and has a bigger shoutbox and whatnot:S

For me its a no brainer ........ there are a million sites out there ..... whether it be for clothes ,for a car or for the gym ...... they all introduce there selves with music .... if i don't like i switch the music off but it dosent stop me from visiting the website. you cant seriously tell me that someone who is visiting an Oldskool website will switch off because there is live music !!!!!!

And more to the point it will give DJ's like me more incentive to play .....
Not being a snob (having played on here for 4+ years) but it does make a difference. I listened to Scott on Sunday afternoon and the listeners he had for the quality of music was a disgrace and that is the bottom line .

Me too. Maybe there could be an option in the user settings to allow it to play automatically, but I'd find it annoying if I had to click to turn it off every time I come on here.

I would say auto play when you hit the main site link:
But not to play when you hit the forum link:

not sure about that Scott, how many people who come on go through the main site ? i get onto the site by clicking it in favourites but its the forum page that i have saved as favourites, and would guess most other members are the same.

i switch the music off but it dosent stop me from visiting the website. you cant seriously tell me that someone who is visiting an Oldskool website will switch off because there is live music !!!!!!

i wouldn't imagine it would, i have never avoided a site myself because of music, but most times if im surfing i have another window open playing music, and it is annoying when you have 2 or 3 pages open and you running round trying to find where the music you dont want is coming from.

Me too. Maybe there could be an option in the user settings to allow it to play automatically, but I'd find it annoying if I had to click to turn it off every time I come on here.

it wouldn't be so bad though if it was an obvious pop up slap bang in middle of screen, it could be set at just the right delay so as to make sure people get a few seconds of tunes before the mute pop up appears, then at least there is the good chance that people who did not want to tune in at that time, might think hang on, cancel what i was gonna do and stay tuned because its rocking. or easily shut it down if its not the right time for them to stay tuned.

You people in doubt are puzzling the living shit out of me!?

sorry Benny its great your trying to get things moving again  my view is its a great idea as long as there is an easy option to switch off if it isn't a good time, for me my pc is set up in the living room so if i haven't the phones plugged in and my speakers are on, its not always good for music to blast out automatic when people are watching telly. but like ive mentioned if the off button is not hidden away where you have to fiddle about finding it. its all good  phones:

Definitely not. I can't stand when a site automatically blasts music at me, generally because if I'm not already listening to something, I'll have forgotten how loud the volume is up & end up jumping a mile when all of a sudden there is music I wasn't expecting!

Votes should be on the interest off the site to help the radio! if the number of listeners did go up with auto radio on! that would be cool! like 40-50 listeners & higher! then building on to other things like a bigger shoutbox & guest Djs etc Get Jazzy Jeff on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How about a small count down box! - sound is about to come on in 3-----2-----1 but with a stop button so you can stop it before it comes on,count down box resets when you leave the website not when you refresh the page.

I didn't say anyone would switch off, Warren;)

There might be a few destroyed laptops or speakers though if the volume is cranked up on their system in the middle of the night and it catches someone by surprise. From experience I nearly destroyed a laptop recently when my headphones came out of the socket when it was cranked up in bed and I desperately fumbled about looking for a way to silence the machine.

Yep and maybe a countdown too, like ''This show will start playing in 5 seconds...4....3....2....1....*Music*...'

How accurate are the listening figures anyway .... I've just been playing around and noticed that when I tune my iPhone to the station using "TuneIn Radio" (which is how all my mates listen to it), it doesn't affect the listening figures being displayed at all.

Movin' on up.
I think it is worth a try.

I like Scott's idea of it only been auto from the main home page or a countdown to stop it playing.

More people listening could be a very good thing for the site and DJ's who give up their time to play.
