Northern Star,

Did you actually go clubbing in the early 90's? I aint talking raves I am talking dance clubs, venus, renaissance etc..... this is what it was like, if you werent dressed right you wouldnt get in etc etc. You had to put on an act to get in...... Having read Valentinas post she was messing not saying she was like that. Nowadays they let anyone in to get their cash, years back it they could be a tad more selective, which gave decent clubs their exclusivness...... chill out!!!! I know they should be so materialistic but that it what it was like.

Liisa

Lol, as poor as my memory is, i would argue that a relaxed dress code was hardly exclusice to warehouse parties. I connot be bothered to retype what i put in the club preference thread, but basically i find comments such as 'you had to put on an act to get in' quite offensive. I feel that your statement is not a true representation of the clubs many of us grew to love and view as our second home, and it implies that clubs that did not have a dress code were in some way scummy. You may call such clubs that require some form of act 'decent' or 'exlusive', but in my experience they did not compare to the happy 'anything goes, come as you are' vibe of the clubs i frequented.

I like my funky house - Always remember a quality night I had in Ibiza which got me into it - Garlands in the back room in Eden with Retro in the main room - kept popping inbetween both - the atmosphere was brill and the floor was bouncing away.

Also had a really good night with Ste at 2Risque - people were sound in there and got chattin to a few and had a laff. Music was refreshing and enjoyed it - got a few requests played aswell which made me buzz
Choons like Intro, Soul Providers - Rise. The tune of the night was Herd and Fitz - I just cant get enough which got played twice because of the rection it got - top tune. Chrissy Ward got dropped aswell - Right and Exact which went down a treat. Everyone who was in there looked like they were having a really good night. I deffo be up for trying ampersand because Ive heard good things about it.

Its nice to have a change phones:

It's a shame The World in Warrington is closed. We used to go once a month. They used to put on quality funky house nights with Miss Moneypenny's.

Pretentious Clubby Types

Amelie,

Sorry if I double post but I have just typed you a reply and it vanished.

Yes that is how these clubs were!!!! If you find this offensive then sorry but it is true, I was a regular so I should know. I am not saying I agreed with the strict dress codes enforced but there was nothing anyone could do. Personally I hated the pretentious clubby types that hid behind they labels but inorder to get in to those clubs you had to dress to impress. I loved the rave scence from '89 onwards were you could wear what you wanted and nobody gave a damn but thinsg moved on didnt they, but when the raves died down there were no clubs etc for us in Lincoln to go to. I loved the free partys, dancing in mud, covered in muck. and would jump at the chance to go to one. BRING BACK THE ILLEGALS I SAY!!!!!!! I can remeber going clubbing in those awful platforms that made a comeback and jesus, I have never been in so much pain in my life, did I have a good night..... NO. I would have if I had been 'allowed' to wear trainers.

IMHO live and let live, let people be who they want to be and dont judge. After all you misjudged my comments. And re-reading my post I still agree that the strict dress codes did give these clubs their exclusiveness, not saying I agree'd with it, btu it did. Afterall you wouldnt call Ritzy's exclusive would you? :D

dress codes

personally if i owned a club i wouldnt let riff raff in that would be anyone who looked like something the cat dragged in eg scruffy trainers , chav stylies.girls who look cheap n nasty (u know what im talkin about) as long as people look smart/casual then i think they shouldnt get turned away.thats just purely goin on dress codes that what we're talking about now arent we? :p

If I had a club I wouldn't let anyone in at all, I'd just sit in the middle of the dancefloor with a load of big cushions and get mashed, with a load of pre-done sets of mine playing, haha

The club wouldn't stay open very long, but I'd be happy, as I'd be :fekked:

:cops: :cops: :cops:

So, in other words, you had to pretend to be pretentious. You were being sort of pretentiously pretentious

Just for the record I couldnt dance it 3 inch Stil's, although I havent tried..... give me trainers anyday..... :D

Aslong as the athmosphere is good, people are friendly, muuuuuussssic is fa, I wil dance anywhere: field, tent, club (not the pretentious ones though, left them behind last centuary), bar, houe, warehouse....... :fekked:

I do hope I havent given the wrong impression of myself, if I have, sorry..... email is a sod and you can interpret it the way it was intended or the wrong way.....

Anyway looking forward to meeting some of ya in Manchester this weekend.....

See ya
