Right.....wasnt gonna say much on this thread, cos basically lots of peeps have said what I think, but after reading this Im gonna have my say.

This is an old skool site, where people who really APPRECIATE the music come on to talk about it being top and also about how good the "scene" was back in the early 90's. Yes it probably was a lot to do with the pills, but Ive not done owt for over 8 years and Ive been listening to old skool ever since I first heard it and I still rush like mad to the majority of the tunes that were made back then, with no optional extras whatsoever.

Youve started this thread to get people debating about new and old music, then youve criticised everyone for not saying exactly what you want them to say...to be honest it sounds like you like the sound of youre own voice and your opinion is the only one that matters.

I am into all different types of music and I do like some newer dance stuff (altho that is very rare). But this is an old skool site and people come on here to remember the times and to also recreate it. If thats being sentimental and silly, then I for one am proud to be it. I look forward to going to GT every month and now cometogether is here too, Im looking forward to that too. Old skool music makes me happy and this site has introduced me to people who are like minded and very friendly.

Long live old skool I say, and the people who are into it are the friendliest ever (in my experience and probably a lot of other peoples). So if you dont like it and just get off on slagging it and the people off, then why exactly are you here???????

Sweet Sensation (one of the best tunes ever :D ) xxxxx

I couldn't of put it better myself, well said m8!

I didn't mean to upset anyone, sorry if I have done that. I think this web site is a laff, and a great resource for IDing toones etc. I think my initial point has been lost some what , surely you can see the similarity between this scene (In 2002) and The Northern Soul Scene now, with 40 odd year old blokes dancin for the weekend at pontins talkin about the old days?

One of my other points was a lot of the piano music from the day were resampled/speeded up/repeated cliches that sound dated now and the music was left with no where to go but up its own arse, and thats probably where it should be left really.

If I can't come on an old skool site and make these points, where do I make them, on a Ministryof Sound website? They would be pretty meaningless there as I am specifically debating about Old Skool Piano tunes, which I was led to belive this board specialises in! I come on this board cos its
helpful and is a laff every so often, but I dont base my life on it!!
beleievit or not I am doing 2 versions of airport 89 and sld at the moment, there is no piano in them, and i am attempting to bring these toones into 2002, so im not that negative

You aint upset me mate, just wound me up....

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Its fine to come on here and make these points but dont diss people for them not saying what you want to hear. Of course theres a similarity to the scene today, old skool is what most of todays stuff is based on, it had to bloody start somewhere....

Im very happy that you think this site is a laff, cos that is what its partly about, but some people do base their lives on it (eg. dj's etc..), its called their jobs, and you obviously regard it highly somewhere in your life as you are taking the time out to re-produce tunes, which is a good thing. Just dont forget where all this started from, and dissing it the way you do, is basically like sticking 2 fingers up to us and this site...and I for one wont sit here and take it on the chin. I will always stand up for things I love.

Im glad you are being positive about making tunes and I would love to hear them when youve finished, just to see if you can put your money where your mouth is......;) ;) ;)

I'd love to hear you remixage mate, being a DJ and serious vinyl head who likes music old and new from soul to techno, would be well interesting to hear new interpretations of Old Skool what is the best form of music out there and will EVER be imo.

You dont often get new remixes of Old Skool tracks these days but when you do theyre sometimes quite good.

One that spings to mind is

Joe Smooth - Promised Land - Mr Pink remix

What a belter!!

So come on lets hear em, I'd love to play em to all and bloody sundry if theyre good.

Completely agree with you Grad m8,its a case of saying what you hink about the initial thread without being rude!!

With respect to the optional extras being better then. Well, yes they certainly were and you didnt need as many thats for sure but if you are well err frequent in your use of vendor and also a tad lucky then 8 times out of ten they are still pretty damn good anyway.

But like we have all said, Its the music, the people, the vibe.....who gives a toss if it started 300 years ago, the late eighties or early nineties or next fekkin july!!!! beacuse its the reality which we love.

I have made loads of mates in clubs years ago who I still know today, go to Cream and the most interaction you are likely to et with a stranger is a punch!!!!!!

CASE CLOSED....Long Live Old Skool

Back oop north!
www.
Righty ho then.............. Pixie's thoughts !!! :D

As far as OS being a product of the earlier stuff, then I totally agree with what everyone has said. It is. All music is a progression of something or other & all music has a 'feel' of some other type of music no matter how long ago it's from. It could be rock, punk, ska, metal trance, OS, whatever...there' will always be an element fo something else in there. :band: for example most electronic music was started with people like Kraftwerk imo & even they had to have influences from other genres of music.

As for there not being any good music being produced these days then I have no idea about music production but I do know what makes me jump about & dance & personally I can dance to most things. I have to say I'm not a big fan of the pop comercial crap that is out at the moment but more recently I have really got into quite a bit if trance stuff & even hard house to an extent.

Some of you have said that there aren't any clubs about at the moment that give you that 'underground' feel of the early 90's well in that case get yourself down to Parlez Vous in Bradford once a month. It's an invite only event & byo booze & it is totally THE MUTTS NUTTS for a venue. Very warehouse style with flourescent walls, wear what youlike & banging music that makes me dance all night. Now some of you might say you don't like HH but most people on here have said that they love OS & most of you have said you loved Kinetic too - well this place is a totall mixture of the two. the HH tunes they play, most of em are remixes or samples of OS tunes but with a banging techno style fast beat to them. I LOVE IT !!! Even I'm knackered when I come out of there !!;)

I think Missed-A-Monday has raised some perfectly valid points & I do think that in some cases there is a tendency to only like OS and to slag other styles of music off when I personally don't think that's fair. There are some people on here who only listen to one kind of music & in all honesty how can they compare this music to another style if they don't listen to it??? (btw, I'm not aiming that comment at anyone personally) :axe:

As far as the party prescriptions go, I agree too that they've changed but then so have we. Have we ever thought that we need more these days cos our bodies are so used to caning it all the time rather than them being any diff? I personally don't think that they made the clubs but the whole scene definitely revolved around them at forst. In the end though I think the whole thing became like a fashion - people wore certain clothes listened to a certain style of music, went to certain clubs etc & just as fashion does, it's come full circle & now OS is back in fashion. :phones:

In summary, it's all good. OS is cool but you can have too much of a good thing & I definately need other stuff in my collection. I also like listening to OS to remind me of some fantastic times I've had. It's like being in a couple & having an 'our song' - that song no matter how old you are will always hold a special place in your heart just as OS does for people on here. (aaaaw romantic Pix) If this is a rose tinted view of the scen then I'm quite happy with that but on the other hand I can still appreciate the music of today (well some of it !!;) )

PLUR Pix  :phones: :king:

Quite right, I aint trying to slag anyone off, I mean I suppose this website and os is quite quaint, but it aint cuttin edge no matter how much you try and pretend, (Im not saying it should be, but all Im saying is there is more stuff out there than os)

And the thought of me only listening soley to music that I listended to 12 years ago is tragic in my opinion

We all hear different kinds of music, I hear it as i have no bloody choice the kids listen to alsorts my husbands choice is even worse.
I think it's because you mentioned it on an oldskool board were peeps on here just listen and talk about OS but if you went on a different forum they would be talking about trance and hip hop, I can not get me words out missed a monday, this is an os site so os post here but it does not mean we luck anywhere else if u no what i mean. You have your right to state how u feel and you did m8 and god you got some answers did'nt ye maybe more than what you wanted, but you as a person has your right to say what you want and ye did m8. I love os because it gives me some wicked memories and the music is sound.

But if I was to talk about other styles of music then i would take it to the proper place. Do ye get what i am saying i am not been funny or owt but as said before it is HARD to express what your feeeling or wanting to say.

My GOD I think i should carry on a little bit more and this will be a long post for me, HEE HEE.

Missed a Monday we r all welcome to our own opion even if it upsets peeps like one self, until i went back and read your post again m8. I do really hope you understand what i am saying.
