Absolutely nothing wrong with that. In my opinion there's a stark contrast between that, and "Great Britain" (I'll use the term loosely for fear of being dragged once again into the mire of semantics) which has been around largely unchanged for 1000 years or so.

So you also do not know history either then.

That figures.

One final point. The citizens of the universe thing doesn't cancel out the differences. It just ties us all together. You can still be a proud Scot or American or Japanese, whatever, but feel like you are a citizen of the world. I don't think it is or has to be boring at all.

We are all different. But to quote that often sample Jesse Jackson speech "We are unified, we are together." To me that is what patriotism sometimes misses.

Nice post.

Interesting that Sean see's himself as Scottish and Turps see's himself as both Scottish and British. That's pretty much somes up the different feelings up here.

What am i? I'm Scottish and proud of it. I don't hate the English. or anyone else for that matter. I'm patriotic but i'm not a nazi.

I like the idea about considering ourselves citizens of the world.

so wishing you all peace, love, unity and respect

now somebody get some tunes going while i get the beer ;)

68.74% English
25% Scottish
12.5% Belgian
6.25% Irish
0.01% Dutch

And proud :D

Who is English on here, and can honestly say they are not a mix of Viking, Angle-Saxon, Norman or Roman? Only the Welsh methinks :D

Of my known family
My Dad's Mum was Scottish
My Dad's Fathers Father was Belgian
My Mum's, Mothers, Mothers Mother was Irish
There is a probable link to the Dutch going back before 16th century on my Mother's side

The remainder I will class as English. Though I can not vouch for the purity of any of it. Where would the BNP repatriate me to  :p

Its funny, the further away you get from somewhere, the less you localise your identity.

Like, being being from huddersfield or wakefield - when compared with being northern or southern (once you're the only two northerners in amongst a bunch of southerners the town distinction vanishes, you're both northern) - and so on - being english or irish, the distinction vanishes, you're still both british when you're in another country...

If you're a group of brits abroad, you're british! you're no longer from leeds and from glasgow.

:)

A typically well laid out & clearly substantiated point being made there...
Any fool can argue vagaries & quote pound coin mottos.
I'm not gonna waste my time
"Satis nunc"

The point was your history knowledge is as poor as your reading comprehension. Its well substantiated by the post you made. You came in and had a childish wee attack at me for a post which did not mean what you interpreted it to mean, I was not the only one who thought so either. Now you look rather silly, so you have to resort to the oneliners rather than address your mistakes. Maybe the relegation is affecting you more than you like to admit?

Do you even know where the pound coin quote comes from?

LOL not even worth dignifying with a response.

As for the "childish wee attack at you"... don't flatter yourself. My point was very general, very straightforward and still stands. Often those who bang on tiresomely about patriotism & make such a big fuss and issue out of it do so because of insecurity.

Patriotism is fine, but banging on & making a big show of it all the time is vulgar, unnecessary & nauseating, as i have said all along in this thread.
