YouTube - N-Trance - Set You Free (1993)

Like it or loath it ?

Deffo a marmite tune I reck... I'd be surprised if there's any ambivalence or fence-sitting on this fucker (even from Mr Diplomacy himself, Radish).

Personally I love it :D I shouldn't I know but I do... the beats are fierce & ace, the piano shamelessy euphoric, the synth riffs cheesey as fuck & the atmospheric intro / breakdown thunder-tastic... the vocals are ACE & best of all I had the raging fuckin horn for the lead vocalist summat chronic back in the day...

Well, ever the diplomat, I absolutely loathe the fucker.

If you listen carefully, in the background you can hear the banging of the coffin lid being nailed down on the rave scene.
to be fair sheikh i think the likes of sesames treet the year b4 had all but finished rave off and i remember mixmag pronouncing the prodigys "charly" as being responsible for "the death of rave" as early as 1992.Something which they (the mag)later apologized for, albeit, over ten years later

in tems of the tune itself its a middling one for me. ive heard loads better tunes and ive heard lots worse too so im gonna sit on the radish (sorry fence;)) and not give a shit either way:thumbsup:

btw for what its worth i thought shooms review was pretty bob on

I like it. not just for the piano. or the vocals. the whole thing. the opening on the original mix is brilliant. brings back lots of fond memories from gigs and hangin with friends.
I remember getting it from 23rd precinct before it was big. I was playing it to anyone who would listen. most loved it. it wasn't a hit.
then they re-released it and it was massive and all the folk who said they didn't like it were coming up to me and saying 'have you heard this it's ace' lol. i bet a lot of you have had that before. ;)

Im usually alot more laid back in my replys, and shooms gotta lot of respect for ya dude, but i always have, always will hate it with a passion:mad:    , and i mean a passion lol. The tunes shite, gets my back up every time i hear it, sorry, but if when marshall jefferson first laid down a piano sample into move your body (first house track with piano in it) he would have realised that a few years later crap like this was gonna be churned out, he would have either1) never had created the tune, or two topped himself lol.

What does my head in about it, besides it being crap, is when im having a conversation about what sort of music im into with other people, at work etc, and i say im into house music from 86-early 93, people always say stuff like, "yeah i love n trance, trip to trumpton, ebenezzer good too etc, love the glow sticks, white gloves, never had you down as being into that scene" i reply as saying i never was into that scene:mad:  , i was into proper house music, not cheesy, chart crap! surely a load of you guys have had the same issue. All the so called back to the oldskool cds that get advertised are full of shit like this, and usually have one good tune, the likes of the nightwriters on them, so people automatically now think (unless they was involved in the scene) that oldskool raves are about the white gloves, the cheesy, nasty tracks, people dont really understand about quality house music, because crap like this has flooded the market.

Suppose it is like marmite, i hate that too lol.

Sorry rant over:$ , but it is n trance ffs;)

Come on guys, i know its christmas, and the season of good will an all, but is this just abit of a wind up to worm out the cheese lovers, its n trance ffs lol.

Can completely take it or leave it..i can see why it was big, but its one of those tunes i can't envisage in a mix. Has the piano rave formula that seemed to work back then. Not sure about the vocals being ace mind..sound more written on the bog style, but again alot of these type of tunes had the throw away..'when you hold me' 'touch me' type of lyrics. Ed

It's a good tune. Just played to death in the extreme. The mix from 97ish done by Brisk were the best in my opinion:p
