Town
Home opened about late 93 if I remember. A lot of the Hac crowd started going there. Got big for a while until it was raided by a 40 stong mob of Salford gangsters with baseball bats!!

As far as I know, Angels opened in 1973. I think it was northern soul and disco right up until the mid 80's, had a pop session and then found house alongside its Northern soul and disco nights.

As for when the dance music/house music started there, Id have to guess at late '88 early 1989, probably more 89 though Id say cos its in the grotty outbacks lol.

Maybe somebody can confirm this info - as ofcourse this is the tales and recolections of a few peeps from the Lancashire area. Dont know how youd find out for definate.

Sirius.

Near enough spot on there mate, but Angels actually opened in 1970, Paul Taylor first started playing there in 73/74

was good in its early house years, one of the best then it went all poo in 1996ish

Always remember Angels used to sell the most diluted half pint of coke you have ever seen in your life! :S Was like clear coke 10 years before it was invented! This was in the days when no one used to buy alcohol of course, lucosade, water or coke all night  Never once did the old bill smell beer on me whenever i got pulled doing the 100's of miles each weekend i used to do  When all they had to do was look into my eyes :fekked: Were not as clued up the old bill in them days, in fact they had no clue at all! :p

Sorry for waffling, got a bit off topic there reminicing

Is that what it looked like  - the night for me was a bit patchy.
In fact I can summarise; remembering the short stairs up - being greeted by some bird with angel wings  - A lot of mental blackout - me cutting up the dancefloor large style in the chill out area; while my mate tried to dissasociate himself from me. About 2 minutes worth of memories :$ .
The other 2 times I went through the street entrance I have good memories of. :luv:

Sirius.

When the Highland Room at Blackpool Mecca closed one of the resident dj`s - Ian Levine - (Take That and other shitty boy band producer) who had moved on from Northern Soul to Disco and Hi NRG started a residency at Angels. This was around the time the club first opened (I thought 72 but with my memory I`ll agree with 73).

He had been influenced by the New York gay clubbing scene on his frequent trips to the USA searching for northern soul tunes.

It was the first club I had ever been to where the dj did not talk and whilst he did not quite get the idea of beat matching he used to play a lot of American 12" singles (I can still recall seeing my first one - what a novelty !!) and `blended` them together over the beat breaks using all different mixes and kept the music flowing all night without a break.

For me he was, genuinely, the first guy to do this ever in the UK - back in 73 and way ahead of his time.

Interestingly Shaboo lasted just 5 Thursdays and 6 Saturdays and I went to every sinlge night. Warehouse atmosphere in a club. Simply brilliant.
