Geez, what a hard thread to answer.

Id have to pick 1991 or 1992 as THE era......thats when the real tunes were coming out. and the happy carefree times with my brother and his mates getting our minds into some serious choonage and loving the whole 'zing' about back then.

However, seeing as I didnt 'rave' as I was too young - late 1994 should be my difinative 'clubbing' days at the 'ol Angels nitespot, but Im tempted to my rebirth of house in 1995 where BT, Grace 'Skin on Skin', the rerelease of Bedrock and stuff like Blue Amazon No other love were rocking the place. Simply Breathtaking.

Ooh, I cant decide! Arghghgh!.

Sirius.

I voted 90, i missed alot from the middle of 91 due to little patter of feet. Must admit I no it wasnt oldskool but I used to travel down to ingelmells with Dizstruxshon and I enjoyed that to even though the music was different. Even now I no it will never be the same as it was then, but I love going out with the peeps on here I love and respect alot of you and only wished you were all there when I first started cause that would of been ace  .

Orlando scene was on fire in 92!

I'm gonna go with 92. I was living near Orlando Florida at the time. That place had one of the best scenes in the US! Kimball Collins and Chris Fortier were our resident dj's. Kimball used to blow the place up properly every week at Aahz. Sasha, Digweed, and Ian Ossia would come over on a regular basis! Top top nights, with the entire crowd holding hands and holding them high into the air......ah, those were the times.... ;)

stuck in Aahz, one thing that's always interested me - how this music we love filtered over to the States, and how it was accepted, I've no idea really (I'm talking about the UK bastardised house, as obviously Chicago/Detroit were the birthplaces of House and Techno respectively)

Did you find it somewhat harder to get your hands on what would be Imports to you, of the UK stuff?

The more well known tracks on bigger labels I imagine wouldn't have been a problem, but for the more scarce EP's of say 500 or 1000, must have been tricky?

I can't decide between 1988, 1989 and 1990, they're all fantastic years for me, if only I could revist them..

Well I did the other night, in a spiritual, special kinda way, but I won't divulge anymore ;)

Edit:

I voted 1990, fuck it, M.V.I.T.A were ace for me in 1990, that's done it for me :D

hahaha MVITA, innit fella, don't tell me you also went to the Midland down in Didsbury did ya ? I dropped my first Strawberry in there just an hour before going to the Konspiracy.

No! I never knew about the Midland, I heard them mention it on 808's show, but never twigged where it was, I was hopeless with pub names back then, still am, as I tended to just go to bars/clubs.

I saw M.V.I.T.A at King Georges Hall, Blackburn, summer '90, they were playing with K-Klass and possibly Evolution (although it might not have been, hazy memory)

I just remember Al-fonso going on and on about "me lions and lionesses" heh, class.

Then a few weeks later, they were (quite unbelievably) on Chanel 4, live at Brixton Academy, I rushed out of the bog (mid-way through having a shit) to hit record on the video (lucky my room was right opposite the bog and no one else was upstairs) :$

I've encoded the M.V.I.T.A video for 'More House' and their appearance on the 808 State show, which you can download from www.mongedup.com (under 'downloads') - unfortunately its in a members only section, due to the webhost changing the php code, so I had to install a new downloads mod, which I can't seem to make any of the files 'public' as yet..

Awww man you gotta get that sorted out, I'd love to download and see it fella.
Al-fonso was usually well off his nut in the Midland but for proper off his nut you should have seen MVITA in their tent at Glastonbury :| :| :|

Went from Manchester Vibes in Da Area slowly morphing untill finally he was saying shizzit like Can of fester pies getting scarier !!
Freaked me right out I can tell ya coz my head was also a bit worse for wear lol.

You can get anything you want over here if you search hard enough. I lived in England from 95-98, so I know what both places are like when trying to find records. It's certainly easier in the UK because way more people are into it. But anywhere you go in the states you can find this stuff if you look hard enough. Here in Dallas there's about 5 record shops I can go to for proper tunes. Any big city in England will have way more than that.

As for if the music is accepted. It is accepted by a small majority. Those who love it, really really love it. It's still quite an underground scene over here, even though it's been around for over 10 years now. In Dallas for instance, there are about 3 or 4 clubs that do this sort of thing, and they are places where you can 'ave it' all night and have a really good time. Most people over here are into rap and r&b, so dance music such as trance and techno are not in the spotlight, which is fine by me. I dont want a bunch of social eletist types in my clubs anyways.

Had so many good nights there, never really tryed anything else other than Life@bowlers, but the best year for me there would probably be 93, brilliant tunage at the time and top atmosphere...

Thanks for answering that, it's nice that it's still largely quite underground then :)

If you fancy making a shitload of money, I've heard there are a lot of Roland TB-303's (little silver box used to make acid house music) in the States (not that much use for areas I know) but a guy I know who I buy/sell studio equipment with, often has people selling him 303's from the US, and he buys them for silly prices, like $100 or less, then sells them over here for (depending on the condition) £800+ ($1465!)

Err, best let them get back on topic now heh
